Why do we celebrate birthdays? From what I can tell it has no function at all, except to tell you that another year, another 365 days, have passed since the day when your life beginned. Sure, you get to spend some time with your family and friends, and that might not happen very often if your life is busy. Altough, if your life is busy, you might not have the time to celebrate, and maybe you don't even want to celebrate it. I don't. I just don't see any point with it, I only get depressed when I know that another meaningless year of my life has passes. Time passes, and it passes way to fast, it's like my life is running away from me... Every reminder of that just depresses me, I don't wanna think about it.

     I've got five birthdays in five days to think about. Two done, three to go. It's awful, and it's the same every year. I have enough to think about, even without all these birthdays, I'm just too busy. It annoys me that most people arrange big parties for themselves, expecting everyone they know to be there and give them expensive gifts, or they'll get really upset. I can't stand self-centered, arrogant people with blown up egos. If birthdays are celebrated just because you get to socialize with friends and family, they are unnecessary, I do that whenever I want to and have time to. If they are celebrated becuse of something else, please tell me, because I want to know why everyone makes such a big deal of his/her birthday...

     While I'm still on the subject, I think that most other holidays are unnecessary too. I'm not religious, so I don't have any religious reasons to celebrate Christmas etc. I don't care much about traditions because I don't see any point in doing anything just because everyone else does the same every year. Most holidays are just a big commercial stunt, that is used to fool people into bying as mush useless stuff as possible, all in the name of money. I wish that people stopped caring so much about money, it ruins our lives. When will the day come that people actually start to care more about each other than about their own welfare? Success and happiness isn't about how rich you are, success and happiness is about being able to think that you've done everything you can to makes others lives better and easier. Love and friendship is the most important things in life.
